bw pretty eyes by you.

My husband took this gorgeous shot of the princess at the Zoo this week. Isn’t she precious?

The princess and I had a lovely day today. We went to the museum and she got to see dinosaurs.

and then we went outside to see this lovely waterfall at the museums botanical gardens

and we went on an insect hunt and found a bee

and then a butterfly

all on the way to the petting zoo where we fed and enjoyed petting the goats

I hope your day was as lovely as ours.

A little over a year ago I was mourning the bloom of my beloved magnolia tree and I was so pleased to go outside yesterday that despite the storms that nearly trampled on all of my freshly planted impatients I found this beautiful bloom. After our crazy weather this spring I didn’t expect it to flower this year. I hope this is the first of many wonderful surprises as our summer begins.

The best part of being married to a teacher (other than the summers off) is the occassional snow day when we have an unexpected day to all be home together!

A few months back if I asked Alaina to say “cheese” for the camera it was met with groaning and the hiding of her face or falling to the ground or my personal favorite her quest for an olympic medal with her sprint out of reach of my lens and I. But, one day she humored me little bit and cracked a small smile, so I pushed my luck and asked her for a big cheese. Who would of though that would set her off into the world of modeling. Now anytime I take my camera out she is hamming it up saying “Mom, get my big cheese” followed by, “Mom I have a bigger cheese”, Lastly, she gives me her biggest cheese and then asks for a snack. Of course I oblige because I can’t ignore such a pretty and polite begger!

I hope each of your labor day holidays is filled with big cheesy smiles!

I will only admit to caving on giving her one cookie. Ok, Maybe two. Who can say no to that face?

This has been such a crazy week for me! It began with the start of my new job! I am so pleased to be able to be working in ministry again! I have taken a position at my church as the elementary childrens ministry coordinator. It is a part time position so I get to still stay home with Princess Alaina and get paid to do what I love most in the world be silly and be with kids. I couldn’t ask for a job that was a better fit for me!

I recieved my lovely cupcake swap from the uber talented Beth! It was like Christmas opening my package! She was sweet enough to make a crocheted cupcake purse for my daughter which she adores! Beth, if you only knew how many times I have tried to make that on my own and gave up! The one she made was perfection! There was candy in there as well, but I am sure it isn’t hard to guess what little candy monster took ate them already!

Now for more fun! I have a new toy! Enjoy my first shot on my new camera! I am the proud new owner of a digital Canon xTI Rebel. A HUGE upgrade from what my little point and shoot. I am in no way a photographer now but I know I am going to have a playing with my new toy! Expect the blog to become a little picture heavy!

Speaking of new adventures, I decided to take up quilting. My new friend, Nancy, decided to hold a quilting bee and the novice I am decided to take her up on her invitiation and lo and behold I became a quilter. Ok, so techincally I am still more of a stripper. Heads out of the gutter, people. I only cut and sewed strips so a stripper I will be until next Thursday until my next class where hopefully these strips will turn into something that resembles a quilt.

Now, I feel the need to be honest with you that I am not sure how quilting and I are going to get along. No one informed me of the over usage of the iron when you quilt. You see, I loathe ironing. Dare I say, I am actually terrible at it? One would think that getting a wrinkle out would be easy but somehow I end up with more wrinkles than I start with. Sigh…maybe my laundering skills will be elevated in this new crafting adventure. That would be a craft related miracle that even my husband would appreciate.

I also was able to attend my first yard sales of the year this weekend! (I had previously been working every weekend morning) So, I was thrilled with my little bargain hunt! Among my finds was 4 yards of flannel for a quarter and a neglected magazine rack. I plan on refinishing it for my craft room to store my latest craft magazines. Which, did you notice what little magazine I found? My in search of has been found! YAY!

Ok, that was a novel! Bless you if you made it through it all!
