It was a delightful summer day. A warm breeze filled the air as four adults watched their little ones frolick around this in inflatable gift from the grandparents. The princess zoomed past her cousins on the slide and enjoyed the thrills while the boys took a more cautious approach. Aunt Stephanie desperately wanted her nephews to enjoy this inflatable beast to it’s fullest and decided to test the waters and see if the Little Tykes monstrosity would hold her weight. A test run was successful and so I grabbed the littlest dude and up we went. All the way up the side we went and started to get situated to slide down. Suddenly, the princess was filled with excitement and shimmied up the side and jumped on top. All 31 pounds of the princess was enough to shift too much weight to the top. A certain stubborn princess refused to move which caused a near capsize. Little dude now crying as we feel the air sinking down and Aunt Stephanie no longer laughing but seriously panicking. His daddy came to the rescue, the princess was able to get down. However, in the princess’ escape her dumb brave mama sunk into the net and was causing the monstrosity to further go down. Laughter and screaming ensued (all on my part) as I had one foot nearing the slide and the rest of my body sinking closer and closer to the ground. Thankfully, someone pulls my foot and I contort myself to go down what is left of the slide. Safe! Inflatable fun for the kiddies continues. I on the other hand slink over to my towel and admit defeat to my hubby who smirked and said I told you so.
Moral of the story. It is made by Little Tykes, I don’t belong on it.
Blogging to a backseat to our new Wii this week. It has been fun, sad and hysterical all at the same time. Who knew that we could be so sore from faux bowling?! Work has also been crazy stressful this month because we are in the two week wait until Vacation Bible School which means my creative talents and time have gone to carving out foam beakers and building giant microscopes. Pictures to come soon but the theme is Power Lab and is going to be fun!
The princess and I had a lovely day today. We went to the museum and she got to see dinosaurs.

and then we went outside to see this lovely waterfall at the museums botanical gardens

and we went on an insect hunt and found a bee

and then a butterfly

all on the way to the petting zoo where we fed and enjoyed petting the goats

I hope your day was as lovely as ours.

To celebrate my 28th birthday I have complied 28 random facts about myself that will hopefully not scare you all off!
My apologies if the numbers aren’t in order. I am not dyslexic but they are showing fine on edit screen but not on the final draft. But, trust me there is 28!
- I don’t have a favorite color. Too many wonderful hues to choose just one.
- I can’t live without Diet Coke. Seriously.
- I have to have a scented fabric softener. If I can’t smell the clean it just doesn’t feel clean to me.
- I hate wearing sunglasses because it make me think that my ears are uneven because glasses always sit crooked on my face no matter the style.
- Embarrassingly, I don’t hate Yo Gabba Gabba. My name is Stephanie, I like to dance. If you don’t have a toddler and haven’t seen this show skip to the next one or you will think I have officially lost it.
- I have no arches in my feet.
- I collect Willowtree Angels
- I have a shelf full of fabric I bought that I know I will never cut into because it is too pretty and I don’t want to mess it up. I would rather let it sit there and inspire me.
- My whole life I have wanted a chaise lounge and now that I have one I never sit in it.
- I crack my knuckles and my knees.
- 50 lbs and many years ago I used to be on a competitive dance team.
- I don’t get the whole Myspace/Facebook phenomenon and I don’t even have the desire to figure it out. I did set up an account to search for a few old friends, but apparently they couldn’t get into it either since I couldn’t find any of them. However, I did find out that my cousin is lying about her age on it so I guess I need to keep my account active to keep an eye on that.
- We have been trying to have another baby for longer than I care to realize. I am incredibly blessed by the princess but I hope to add a sibling for her to our happy little family.
- I took guitar lessons when I was in middle school, sadly the only song that I have memorized when I pick up a guitar is “Dust in the Wind”
- I have always wanted a tattoo, but I am a total wuss and would never get one.
- I did have a moment of rebellion and got my belly button pierced when I was a teenager. I took it out when I got pregnant and ended up with stretch marks in the shape of an X over the hole. I think that was my punishment for sneaking off to do that without my parents permission.
- My favorite ice cream is Edys/Dreyers Slow Churned Chocolate Ice cream. I am a total ice cream snob with this one. Can never go back to generic ice cream again!
- I don’t post about half of the crafty projects I do because I am too intimidated by the how amazing some of the masters of craft are and feel mine just pale in comparison.
- I made and sold hair bows and tutus for a year and that allowed to stay home with the princess for a year when I was unexpectedly laid off. However, I made so many that I developed an aversion to tulle. If I ever work with it again it will be too soon.
- I love to read but my time to read is slowly being replaced by my love of blogs. Darn those bloglists that keep me clicking!
- I have a secret desire to be on What’s not to Wear. I seriously need their help as I don’t think my favorite t shirt in ever color as being stylish. Other than my hot mamas shoes. Now, those are hot.
- My grandpa was an amazing artist and could draw and paint anything and I am so disappointed that I didn’t inherit any of his talents.
- I am scared of losing weight even though I definitely need to. I have done some pretty disastrous and unhealthy things to my body to lose weight and now that I don’t know how to lose weight without getting carried away with it so I have been avoiding it.
- My mom named me after a girl that used to beat her up and steal her lunch. My mom said she always felt bad for her and ended up packing up two lunches so Stephanie wouldn’t beat her up. She said she always saw something good in her despite her being mean. I don’t know what she expected me to end up as given the names history but I hope I have proved to have something good in me despite my flaws as well.
- In the age old dessert battle of cake vs. pie. I would have to side with my Dad and choose pie. Click for my decadent apple pie recipe!
- I have always been nervous about getting my hair cut and now that I found a great stylist I am itching to get my hair cut all the time. Shout out to Tammi in the words of Sharpay…you are FABULOUS! (yes, I work with kids all the time so I often have to speak in High School Musical speak and embarrassingly here as well I didn’t hate watching that either!)
- I have always round up on my age so turning 28 doesn’t feel like a big deal since I have said I was 28 for the last year.
- I have April 10 marked on my calendar for one reason. The return of The Office
Coming off of my three day headache, I think I was the only one in the area who didn’t realize we were getting a huge blizzard snow storm. I grew up in Utah so a foot of powdery snow was pretty normal throughout the winter but here in Kentucky snow is almost always accompanied by ice and freezing rain. But today we have eight inches out of a predicted foot and it shows no signs of stopping tonight. This is actually the first great snow to play in since Alaina has been old enough to go out and play in it. We have taken her out in the her sled before but today was the first time she went down a hill by herself. Doesn’t she look proud? The mom behind the lens was beaming with pride too!
Sunday nights don’t get much better than that for me!
The weekend long birthday extravaganza for Alaina’s 4th birthday has come to a close. You have never seen a child so excited for a party. This was the first big event since Christmas that she has understood and has gotten excited for. She woke up on Saturday and walked in my room and I said, “Happy Birthday, Princess” and I had no way to prepare myself for what she did next. She burst into tears and jumped up in the bed and into my arms. I stared into her teary blue eyes and she told me that she missed being 3. No amount of convincing how great being 4 was when she realized her party wasn’t until the next day and the waterworks continued. I think she assumed the party was like Christmas and that she would be able to wake up and BAM! it would be party time. Patience is a big lesson for a little kid. But, by the end of the day and a trip to the Target dollar spot proved to put a smile on her face.

Yesterday, we had her party which ended up being a crossover of two themes. She couldn’t decide if she wanted to be a pirate or a princess so we had a pirate and a princess party. The whole family played along and wore our silly pirtate hats and let her be the true princess of the day. Even I jumped on the pirate ship and wore a hat! (you can even see the new hair do and color underneath my hat)

A party would not be complete without cake and presents. Especially when it involves an ice cream cake to which no one in my house can resist!

As the party was coming to a close and the treasure hunt was over and the little ones were back to playing Princess Alaina made one more birthday wish with her wand in which she tried to make a rainbow. No one could have ever guessed that the sun would have peeked out from the afternoon of rain to deliver this gorgeous rainbow.

When everyone left I pulled Alaina up into my lap and asked her if she enjoyed her birthday and she enthusiastically said that she couldn’t wait to turn 5. (Trust me beloved, mommy can wait a year…three went by way to fast!) I asked her what her favorite part was and she looked at me so innocently and said her birthday rainbow. I told her that God makes rainbows and that they were a promise from him just like he gave to Noah. To which my sweet child looked at me and said, yes but this rainbow was made by my magic wand and birthday wish. I decided that maybe it was best to leave that argument alone and let her go to bed knowing all of her birthday wishes came true.
