Of which, I apparently do not have when it comes to sewing. Inspiration always hits me quickly and rather than searching for the perfect tutorial I usually just wing it. Sometimes it works out in my favor and other times it doesn’t. Today it sort of worked out. I started sewing this up a few days ago and the base of purse has been hanging out on my dining room table for most of the week waiting for inspiration for the handles. Well, I got impatient and didn’t wait for the right inspiration and just whipped something up so the bag would be finished and I am not happy with my choice. I love the fabrics I chose, the base of the bag is fabulous Joann’s find, Alexander Henry Mocca and some Amy Butler Lotus dots on top. But, I am considering dissecting the bag to fix the handles which are too thick for my taste. But, on the other hand I realize that I will most likely be bored of this bag in a few weeks and sew up a new one so maybe I can live with the wonky straps for a little while. Decisions, decisions, decisions. Maybe, I will work on the patience virtue in me and I will wait to figure out what I really want to do before I rip the straps out and try again. But, first a peek inside!

I am on Diet Coke number two and that is just about the most exciting part of my much anticipated red carpet shows. Come on Hollywood, you really could have done better! With all of the cancelled red carpets and award shows I was expecting much more. The only thing I have going for me is that red was the color of the evening which bodes well for my chances of wearing my hot mama shoes again.
Sunday nights don’t get much better than that for me!

Can you see the sick little girl under there? We woke up in the middle of the night with a reaction to one of the shots from her doctors appointment yesterday. It looks like we have a full day of fever fighting and sick bucket patrol. I know how jealous you all are of our plans for today. Pray for a quick healing for her. I hate seeing her so miserable.

The best part of being married to a teacher (other than the summers off) is the occassional snow day when we have an unexpected day to all be home together!
The weekend long birthday extravaganza for Alaina’s 4th birthday has come to a close. You have never seen a child so excited for a party. This was the first big event since Christmas that she has understood and has gotten excited for. She woke up on Saturday and walked in my room and I said, “Happy Birthday, Princess” and I had no way to prepare myself for what she did next. She burst into tears and jumped up in the bed and into my arms. I stared into her teary blue eyes and she told me that she missed being 3. No amount of convincing how great being 4 was when she realized her party wasn’t until the next day and the waterworks continued. I think she assumed the party was like Christmas and that she would be able to wake up and BAM! it would be party time. Patience is a big lesson for a little kid. But, by the end of the day and a trip to the Target dollar spot proved to put a smile on her face.

Yesterday, we had her party which ended up being a crossover of two themes. She couldn’t decide if she wanted to be a pirate or a princess so we had a pirate and a princess party. The whole family played along and wore our silly pirtate hats and let her be the true princess of the day. Even I jumped on the pirate ship and wore a hat! (you can even see the new hair do and color underneath my hat)

A party would not be complete without cake and presents. Especially when it involves an ice cream cake to which no one in my house can resist!

As the party was coming to a close and the treasure hunt was over and the little ones were back to playing Princess Alaina made one more birthday wish with her wand in which she tried to make a rainbow. No one could have ever guessed that the sun would have peeked out from the afternoon of rain to deliver this gorgeous rainbow.

When everyone left I pulled Alaina up into my lap and asked her if she enjoyed her birthday and she enthusiastically said that she couldn’t wait to turn 5. (Trust me beloved, mommy can wait a year…three went by way to fast!) I asked her what her favorite part was and she looked at me so innocently and said her birthday rainbow. I told her that God makes rainbows and that they were a promise from him just like he gave to Noah. To which my sweet child looked at me and said, yes but this rainbow was made by my magic wand and birthday wish. I decided that maybe it was best to leave that argument alone and let her go to bed knowing all of her birthday wishes came true.
Just in case you are still visiting my little blog after the confession in my last post, I feel the need to thank you! Haha, and since you obviously still love me despite my flaws I am happy to pass on a Challenge from Mary who wants us to share the love. I commented to Mary that I have been the recipient of unexpected joy in my email and my mailbox and feel pretty blessed by those who I call my friends either through blogs or in real life that I am happy to pass this challenge along!
The rules are simple! Do a little something sweet for someone who would not expect it by March 1.Yep, thats it. I know you all can handle it! So, join Mary and her challenge here!
I am a closet Paula Abdul fan. There I said it. I realize that some of you may never want to visit my little blog again as you are questioning my overall taste. But, in my defense I have very fond memories of my “straight up now tell me” days. When I was younger, I desperately wanted to be her to the point that when I was in the 4th grade, I choreographed and made my friends learn dances to all of her songs in hopes of making it on Star Search. Don’t hate, you know you all had secret addiction to the beloved Ed McMahon! Up until a few years ago I had slight resentment of my mom for not sending in our videotaped dance numbers in to old Ed, that was until I saw how silly we looked and I would like to publically apologize to my mom to say that I am over it.
However, my love for Paula Abdul music continues and I can’t get into her Bravo show “Hey Paula” as it pretty much just ruins my childhood idolization of her and although some of her comments on “American Idol” make me cringe. But, my heart still went a little aflutter to see her comeback before the Superbowl last night.
Laugh at me, indulge me with your guilty muscial pleasures but please don’t desert my blog forever in fearing I have lost my credibility. I promise to redeem myself with future projects!
Although it feels like ages since I have been able to do it as often as I once did!
I finished this last night for Valentines day but as you can tell getting her to pose is still a challenge!

All the cool kids do the flamingo pose, didn’t you know?

Twirl factor…….check!

What the majority of the shots looked like!
I really should change her nickname from Princess to Monkey. It really would be much more fitting. I will leave you with my current work in progress which is a tote for the library. Alaina picked out these fabrics on her own from the scrap stash from JoAnn’s Fabric. I think she has a great eye as I couldn’t have picked a better match for her tote if I tried!

Once upon a time before I spent all my free time getting my crafting on I had gotten into digital scrapbooking. However, I was not smart enough to back everything up and when my computer died last year I was positive that I had lost so many pictures from when Alaina was little. Well, tonight after guessing an old password I remembered a site in which I had saved pictures to and found some of my favorites and since the little princess is going to be 4 this month I thought I would share a few of the gems I uncovered tonight!

Ok, now I am all teary. How quickly the time flies!
